After earning his bachelor’s degrees in medicine and surgery from the University of Nigeria in Nsukka, Enugu -- the equivalent of a medical degree in the United States -- Dr. Okoye completed an internship at General Hospital Abakaliki, Ebonyi, Nigeria. His other work in Nigeria includes serving as a general practitioner and as a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist.

Dr. Okoye studied briefly as a master of public health candidate at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and completed three residencies: two at clinics in Germany and one at New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, in affiliation with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University at Harlem Hospital Center. Dr. Okoye has since practiced as an attending physician across both Carolinas.

Dr. Okoye is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the United States Medical Licensing Examination, and two German medical boards. He’s also a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Society of Hospital Medicine.

In his free time, Dr. Okoye enjoys chess, music, soccer, and volunteering for organizations like the Knights of Columbus and Association of Nigerian Physicians Americas Carolinas.
