Most often, urgent care can do lab tests, but only if they have an in-house laboratory. We have this here at Eastway Medical Clinic. This allows us to test patients for several conditions without having to refer them to another healthcare provider for testing. Some of the illnesses and other issues we can diagnose with a lab test include anemia, leukemia, cardiac risk, thyroid function, diabetes, kidney disease, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, strep throat, and others. We can test for most common conditions with only a simple blood or urine sample, and we provide this service on a walk-in basis or by referral.

Additionally, here at Eastway Medical Clinic, we’re also capable of diagnosing HIV and STDs. X-ray imaging creates pictures of the inside of the body, and can be used to diagnose broken bones and other health conditions. A chest X-ray can be useful for checking for pneumonia, while a mammogram can be done to check for breast cancer.

X-rays are simple, painless, and with very little risk to the patient. The amount of radiation produced by the X-ray is very small, so there is little risk to patients, but there is a greater risk to young children or babies. You must communicate to your healthcare team whether you are or may be pregnant.

It’s easy to prepare for an X-ray. Right before the exam, you simply have to remove all metal objects, put on a hospital gown and/or lead apron if necessary, and that’s it!

It’s also common for clinics like ours to have onsite X-ray machines. We have this too here at our clinic. This allows us to diagnose some illnesses and conditions like arthritis, osteoporosis, pneumonia, lung cancer, breast cancer, emphysema, and heart failure. We can also diagnose injuries like minor fractures (broken bones), minor dislocations, and others, or detect foreign objects like metal fragments.

On top of that, we can also offer ultrasound and 2D echocardiography for our patients when necessary.
