If your healthcare provider suspects that there may be a problem with and/or affecting your bones or soft tissue, they will likely send you in to get an X-ray. An X-ray is a type of body imaging that gives medical practitioners visuals into the internal structures of your body. 
 
An X-ray uses a safe and specific amount of concentrated radiation in combination with a digital monitor to produce pictures of the different bones, organs, and internal structures that are in the body. In these images, solid objects, such as bones, will show up as being bright white, while soft tissues, such as organs, will appear in grey tones. 
 
You will always be required to wear a protective vest as this guards your body against any excess radiation. In some specific cases, you may also be asked to ingest a contrast agent that enhances the visibility of internal structures in the images. 
 
By analyzing these images, your doctor can identify and diagnose a wide range of injuries, diseases, and ailments. With proper insight into what’s going on inside, they’ll also be able to provide you with a more comprehensive treatment plan.

X-ray imaging can help your healthcare provider diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions that aren’t observable to the naked eye.

To get an X-ray, you’ll need to obtain a requisition form from your doctor. This will let the diagnostic clinic know what area(s) need imaging and if any additional testing is required. They may send this requisition to the facility directly, or they may print out a copy to take with you when you go. Once acquired, you can book an appointment with the diagnostic clinic to get your X-ray taken.
